Position Summary
This position is a temporary part-time position for the duration of the project. This individual is responsible for ensuring a cohesive and supportive customer experience by interacting with customers, internal resources, and vendors through various channels. Your duties include installing, surveying, testing, and troubleshooting telecommunication connectivity systems and infrastructure.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversees telecom product orders through full life cycle. Coordinates correspondence with internal stakeholders, external clients and vendors/carriers to ensure project completion. Possess the desire and ability to work with hand tools and perform a wide variety of "hands-on tasks" related to the installation of connectivity components.
  • Acts as departmental point-of contact for vendors, customers, project managers, and management.
  • Knowledgeable on the proper use of basic hand tools.
  • Ability to act in a professional and courteous manner on all matters involving the customer.
  • Ability to properly install both copper and fiber optic cable.
  • Ability to properly terminate copper cable (Cat5, Cat6, etc..) under supervision
  • Ability to properly create and install labels
  • Ability to perform all component and system testing.
  • Use proper care on all company assets to avoid breakage, misuse, theft, etc.
  • Complete and submit basic paperwork (timecards, material forms, etc.) according to company policies and procedures.
  • Attend classes and training sessions, as requested by GDS Management, to obtain and maintain vendor certifications.
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager

Minimum Qualification (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working with telecommunications outside plant (OSP) both aerial and burial cable installations.
  • Ability to recognize all major elements of OSP cabling, distinguishing between legacy Bell system copper, broadband coax, and fiber optic cables. Must have the ability to recognize these services through digital pictures and convey analysis to personnel in the field.
  • Ability to complete the tasks assigned in a timely manner and maintain a clean, neat, professional appearance, wearing the company uniform during all project related duties unless specifically directed otherwise by a superior.
  • Must maintain a current and clear driver's license and be capable of driving a company truck as needed. BICSI certifications are a plus.
  • Will travel up to 50% of time for out-of-town work and may be required to stay overnight for extended periods of time based on project needs.
